October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, an essential time to focus on the ongoing battle against breast cancer. At Valency Vietnam, we recognize the importance of this month and took proactive steps to educate our workforce, which is comprised of 61% women. We organized a series of informative sessions aimed at raising awareness about this critical health issue. During this session, our employees learned about the significance of early detection, recognizing risk factors, and implementing effective preventive measures.

One of the key topics discussed was self-testing practices, which empower women to take charge of their health and be proactive in monitoring their bodies. By fostering a culture of awareness and proactive health management, Valency Vietnam is not just supporting our employees; we are also contributing to the broader fight against breast cancer.

One of the highlights of the session was sharing of personal stories related to breast cancer by the employees. Encouraging open conversations about breast health and providing resources for education can make a significant difference. As we come together this October, we reaffirm our commitment to promoting awareness, facilitating early detection, and ultimately, improving outcomes for women everywhere. Together, we can create a supportive environment that encourages vigilance, education, and empowerment in the face of this disease.

October is the month dedicated to the fight against breast cancer. During the month, numerous activities are organized to raise awareness and fight against this disease. With this in mind, Valency International Trading was also committed to organize a breast cancer awareness campaign in the village of Attinguié.

To mark the occasion, we organized a walk through the village streets for a bit of physical exercise. We then met up in the village square to get the ball rolling. The representative of the ESG department, Miss POUOSSI Vanessa, set the scene by explaining the reasons that brought us together and the benefits that Valency has brought to the village since its installation on the site.

The 2nd Deputy Village Chief then thanked the women for their mobilization and Valency for its interest in the well-being of the population. Doctor KARAMOKO, took the floor to present breast cancer, its manifestations, means of prevention and consequences. The participants asked questions for a better understanding, and the Doctor answered each one.

Mr ZASSAUD Hervé, representing the Director, reiterated Valency's support for the village and its people. We parted in good spirits after taking a family photo to immortalize the moment.

The right to food is recognized as a fundamental human right by the United Nations and international law, essential for survival, growth, and development. Access to adequate nutrition is crucial for both physical and mental well-being, making food security a priority for vulnerable populations. In alignment with the UN's Sustainable Development Goal 2 (Zero Hunger), efforts to promote nutrition and food access are critical to ensuring the well-being of communities, especially those at risk.

In celebration of World Food Day, Valency Agro took a proactive approach to addressing food insecurity by distributing free food and drinks to 100 individuals, including low-income families, children, and the elderly. This initiative not only provided immediate relief but also raised awareness about the importance of food security and proper nutrition. Through this effort, Valency Agro demonstrated its commitment to corporate social responsibility (CSR) and the broader goal of community development.

The event had a significant impact by promoting awareness of hunger issues while supporting the well-being of vulnerable populations. On October 10th, organizations worldwide observe World Mental Health Day, raising awareness about mental health issues and advocating for well-being. This year’s theme, “Mental Health at Work,” highlights the need for supportive workplace environments that foster mental wellness. Valency International Trading Vietnam embraced this theme by hosting an informative mental health session for its employees. Recognizing the importance of mental health alongside physical health, the company aimed to equip its workforce with knowledge and strategies to manage their well-being effectively. The session covered various aspects of mental health at work, starting with an overview of its significance. Employees learned about the signs of mental health issues and their impact on personal and professional life. Insights into stress management techniques and the benefits of seeking help empowered employees to prioritize their mental health. As part of the session, participants engaged in a gratitude exercise, reflecting on the things they appreciate about their workplace. Employees shared their gratitude for supportive colleagues, a collaborative environment, and opportunities for growth along with every day small joys at workplace like morning coffee and lunch time chitchats. This exercise not only fostered a positive atmosphere but also highlighted the importance of recognizing and celebrating the good within their professional lives. A highlight of the day was a guided meditation, allowing participants to take a break from their routines and reconnect with themselves. This mindfulness exercise fostered relaxation and highlighted the positive effects of mindfulness on mental clarity and resilience. Following meditation, the session shifted to an open discussion, providing a safe platform for employees to share thoughts, challenges, and strategies related to mental health. This interactive segment encouraged vulnerability and openness, fostering community among colleagues. By facilitating this dialogue, Valency Vietnam demonstrated its commitment to creating a supportive work environment. To add fun, the session concluded with a lively game of Pictionary centered around mental health themes. This engaging activity entertained participants while reinforcing key concepts, showing that discussions about mental health can be enlightening and enjoyable. Valency Agro Pvt. Ltd., Gujarat, India, recently celebrated Navratri, the most revered festival for Gujaratis, with immense enthusiasm and fervour! Recognizing its significance, we planned an extravagant celebration for our Gujarati workers. The festivities commenced with Ambe Mata's Puja and Aarti, seeking divine blessings for our organization and its people. This was followed by Prasad distribution, spreading love, positivity, and gratitude among our workforce. A special lunch was organized for all workers and staff, providing a wonderful opportunity for everyone to bond over delicious food. The highlight of the event was undoubtedly the Garba dance, where everyone let loose and danced their heart out. The energy was infectious, and our workers' enthusiasm was unbelievable. Our workers added to the event's vibrancy by donning traditional and colourful attires, showcasing the rich cultural heritage of Gujarat. Successful completion of World breast Cancer Month celebration program, held at Udupi plant under the leadership of our factory Manager Mr. Harish Kandpal. On 08-10-2024 from 12.00 pm to 12.30 pm venue was Grading Section. The event was a resounding success, engaging our team and raising awareness about cancer prevention, early detection, and support for those affected.

Awareness Sessions: We organized informative sessions led by Mukesh Choure (EHS), Arushi Saxena (QC), and translated to local language by Sumalatha and Praveen (HR) which covered cancer prevention, symptoms, and treatment options. The response from employees was overwhelmingly positive, with many participating in discussions and seeking additional information.

Employee Engagement: We encouraged employees to participate in a "Wear Pink Day"

Impact: The celebration significantly contributed to spreading awareness about cancer and reinforcing our company’s commitment to health and wellness. Feedback from employees has been highly positive, with many appreciating the initiative.

Agri-tech can be a game changer in decarbonising agri supply chains, increasing yield, improving profitability for farmers and enabling consumers to make better choices. As Valency we invite startups eager to explore synergies with us in advancing the India-APAC trade flow. We offer comprehensive mentorship and act as a vital support function for startups. We work closely with founders to refine their strategies, optimize their operations, and open doors to new opportunities. We are committed to collaborating with diverse stakeholders to leverage Agri-Tech to nourish planet and people.

Our Profit Centre Head for Pulses and Spices - Mr Himanshu Pandey was featured on a panel discussion on Zee Business where he aired his views on the market outlook for pigeon peas and chickpeas in a national and international context. Our team members in Nigeria participated in a major seminar organised by one of the largest banks in Africa - Zenith Bank, in Lagos. themed “Nigerian Non-Oil Export Industry: Awakening the Giant”. We also had the opportunity to display our Nigeria line-up of FMCG and agro-commodity products to the participants and the Group Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Zenith Bank Plc Dame (Dr.) Adaora Umeoji,OON during her visit to the Valency booth. We believe countries like Nigeria with huge arable land and a young dynamic workforce can be a major player in the global soft-commodities market. Our Regional Head Desh Ratna represented Valency at RMIT University Vietnam Food Tech Day 2024 panel discussion on the topic “Sustainability in Agri Food Technology” Desh highlighted Valency's global initiatives towards meeting Sustainable Agri-Food products which include our deep engagement with farmers in Africa to produce high quality sustainable products and application of cutting-edge technology in food processing to meet global standards. Last week we had the opportunity to host BII Chief Investment officer Ms. Liz Lloyd and her team at our factory in Ibafo, Nigeria. The BII team was welcomed by our group CEO Mr. Sumit Jain along with other senior members of Valency team. Our team took Ms Lloyd through our 17-year long journey of evolving from a pure trading company into a food ingredients supplier through our upstream and downstream initiatives. The Ibafo facility itself has undergone a major transformation and capacity expansion as part of our ongoing investments in strategic physical assets in the region. We also had the opportunity to share the various ESG initiatives for the upliftment of the local community under our E2P (Environment, People and Product) framework. Our efforts to generate employment opportunities for the women workforce in the community and welfare measures were much appreciated by the BII team.

In every geography we operate in, we are first and foremost members of that community with a responsibility to step up and make appropriate contributions when the need arises. One such community is the village of Attinguie in Ivory Coast, with a burgeoning population which overstretches the resources at their disposal. This situation was quite apparent in the need for the local school to build additional classrooms in order to continue providing quality education to the young. When we learnt of the situation, our country leadership team came forward with a meaningful contribution towards construction of a primary school in the village. Education in local communities is a cause that we are particularly passionate about, We have had the privilege of working closely with this school in Attinguie for some time and the smiles on the faces of the teachers and students give us the energy to push forward with our mission of being part of the solution in local communities. On World Blood Donor Day, Valency Agro Pvt. Ltd. in Gujarat, India, hosted a successful Blood Donation Camp, where around 38 units of blood were collected from enthusiastic employees and workers. The event, held in partnership with Sarvoday Charitable Trust Blood Bank, underscored the vital role of blood donations in saving lives. Donors were provided with certificates, donor cards, and their blood test results via mobile, ensuring full transparency. In recognition of their outstanding contribution, Sarvoday Charitable Trust Blood Bank awarded Valency Agro Pvt. Ltd. a framed certificate, which now proudly hangs in the Factory Manager’s office. We are thrilled to share that we have significantly expanded the production capacity at our Cashew processing facility in Udupi, India. As we continue to grow into becoming one of the leading food ingredient suppliers in the world, with a focus on plant-based foods, this capacity expansion is part of our ongoing global initiatives of building up tech enabled and innovation driven processing complexes across West Africa, India and Vietnam. Our Chairman Mr Praveen Kumar Jain, Group CEO Mr Sumit Jain and Mr Mahesh, ASI Hebri Police Department were present at the capacity expansion ceremony along with the key stakeholders from the community, business fraternity and our staff with Mr. Naveen, President, 38 Kalthur Gram Panchayath, and Mr. Jagadish, MESCOM, as the chief guests . As we approach World No Tobacco Day on May 31st, Valency International Trading Vietnam is committed to promoting health awareness and sustainability within its workforce. Smoking is highly common in Vietnam, with an estimated 18 million smokers and a tobacco market ranked 32nd globally. Vietnam's Health Education and Communication Center estimates that 40,000 people die annually from smoking, and if current trends continue, 10% of the Vietnamese population could die from smoking-related illnesses by 2030. Valency understands its responsibility to educate its workforce and community about the consequences of tobacco usage. On May 11th, 2024, the company organized several health awareness sessions to enlighten its workers about the dangers of tobacco. In alignment with World No Tobacco Day's theme, "Protecting children from tobacco industry interference," these sessions emphasized the impact of tobacco on children and the importance of early intervention to prevent addiction. Employees engaged in discussions about the harmful effects of smoking on personal health and the environment and learned about the toxic ingredients in cigarettes and methods to quit smoking. Sessions were held at the Long a province facility and in Ho Chi Minh City for workers and office staff. Following this, a cleanup session of cigarette butts was conducted. Near the factory's dedicated smoking area, workers participated in cleaning up cigarette litter and discussed the environmental impact of cigarette waste. A recycled dustbin was placed in the area to encourage behavioral change among smokers. Through consistent and targeted awareness initiatives, Valency aims to cultivate an enlightened and responsible workforce. By championing health and sustainability, the company is paving the way for a brighter, tobacco-free future for its employees and the community.

Fellow panelists shared about how organizations throughout the supply chain are doing more to practice inclusion with accountability; there is undeniable positive impact to including women within agribusinesses and trade. I am grateful to International Fertilizer Association (IFA) for providing me with the opportunity to share views close to my heart and to add to the journey of so many passionate women looking to build a career in fertilizer and agri-trading.

At the recent AGRI Investment and Capital Market Conference 2024 by Welcome 2 Africa, Trilochan Ojha and Amit Bose represented Valency. Amit Bose in his keynote speech addressed the current challenges faced by the cashew kernel industry in Nigeria and highlighted how Valency is helping address them. Amit emphasized the importance of private and public partnerships, the need for predictable incentives for export, and better access to funds at a lower cost for the Nigerian industry. Additionally, Amit highlighted Valency's immediate plans to establish one of the largest cashew processing hubs in Ogun State, Nigeria. Operating solely on renewable energy sources, this facility will have a minimal carbon footprint apart from creating meaningful employment opportunities in the country.

We are thrilled to share that we have established a brand-new cashew peeling and packaging facility in Abidjan, Ivory Coast. The facility uses the latest technology and will further strengthen our position as a global leader in supplying Cashew kernels from all major cashew producing geographies around the world. This is one of the many significant investments in the Agri supply chain we are making across Africa with a keen focus on driving sustainable impact, especially in the communities we operate in. This facility will generate significant employment and bring opportunities especially to the women workforce. Cleaning Activities: On the day of Earth Day, enthusiasm was palpable as employees eagerly participated in various cleaning activities organized across our company premises. Introduction: Valency Agro, through its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) unit, has been working with Self-Help Groups (SHGs) to support and promote their liquid soap business. During his recent visit to Nigeria, the ESG/CSR head had the opportunity to meet with Self-Help Groups (SHGs) who expressed concerns about their struggling liquid soap business. The SHGs shared that they were facing challenges with poor sales, which was hindering their ability to generate income. In response to this, Dr. Uttam Sur collaborated with Mr. Trilochan and Mr. Srinivas to address the issue at hand. Through their efforts, market linkages were established to connect the SHGs with potential customers, ultimately leading to a significant increase in sales. The CSR unit facilitated market linkages for the SHGs, which has resulted in a significant increase in sales for the SHGs. Previous Sales Performance: Prior to the market linkage facilitated by Valency Agro's CSR unit, the SHGs were only able to sell 7-10 litres of liquid soap among themselves in a month. With 10 litres of liquid soap production giving a revenue of N6000 per month, the SHGs were facing limitations in scaling up their business due to lack of access to a wider market. Impact of Market Linkages: After the intervention of Valency Agro's CSR unit, the SHGs were able to sell 90 litres of liquid soap in the month of April 2024. This significant increase in sales has boosted the production of liquid soap to N54,000 per month. The market linkages provided by the CSR unit have opened up new opportunities for the SHGs to expand their customer base and increase their sales revenue substantially. Therefore, the percentage increase in sales for the SHGs' liquid soap business after the market linkages facilitated by Valency Agro's CSR unit is 800%. This significant growth in sales reflects the positive impact of the CSR initiatives in empowering and supporting the SHGs in expanding their business. bridging the gap between producers and consumers, the SHGs were able to thrive and expand their business while increasing their overall income. This success story serves as a shining example of how strategic partnerships and support from the CSR unit can drive positive change and empower communities for sustainable growth.

On March 8th, at Valency International – Côte d’Ivoire, Women's Day wasn't just a date on the calendar; it was a celebration that echoed throughout the halls and offices of the company. To commemorate Women’s Day 2024, the ESG/ CSR Division orchestrated events both within the factory premises and in the surrounding community. This year, we innovatively tailored our program to resonate with the female workforce within the factory, aiming to foster heightened motivation among them. This strategic approach not only bolsters trust but also solidifies our bond with the female employees and staff. We hosted a formal Women’s Day program exclusively for the female laborers and staff within the factory. During the program, we took the opportunity to honor a longstanding employee, recognizing their dedication and commitment to our factory's mission. Such gestures serve to inspire and encourage workers to further contribute to our collective goals. We dedicated our efforts to celebrating the female office staff with engaging activities and a modest event. This served as a platform to express our gratitude for their unwavering dedication towards advancing our factory's objectives. The community has been instrumental in the development of the factory, and as a token of appreciation, we have actively undertaken various social initiatives within the community. In observance of Women’s Day, we honored all female police personnel in Hebri. The Hebri Police Department has consistently provided invaluable support and assistance at every stage of the factory's growth and requirements. In recognition of the dedication and contribution of these women in ensuring the welfare of society, the CSR Division extended its gratitude by felicitating all female police personnel. This gesture has been warmly received by the police department and its officials, who have expressed their appreciation for Valency Agro Pvt. Ltd.'s unique initiative.

The training session was organized by Valency Agro Nigeria, a leading agricultural company in the country, in collaboration with local Community-Based Organizations (CBOs) that work closely with farmers in the community. The objective of the training was to highlight the importance of cooperative formation and emphasize the advantages it can bring to smallholder farmers. Over 200 farmers from various villages in the community participated in the training, which lasted for five days. The training covered various topics including the concept and principles of cooperatives, the benefits of cooperative formation, and the necessary steps to establish and manage a successful cooperative. During the training, the participants learned about the advantages of cooperative formation, such as increased bargaining power, access to credit and markets, shared resources and knowledge, and reduced risks. They were also introduced to successful cooperative models from other regions, showcasing the positive impact cooperatives can have on the livelihoods of smallholder farmers. Additionally, the training highlighted the importance of effective management and governance of cooperatives. The farmers were educated on the roles and responsibilities of cooperative members, the need for transparency and accountability, and the significance of regular meetings and decision-making processes. The training concluded with a practical session where the participants were guided through the process of establishing a cooperative. They were provided with step-by-step guidance on legal requirements, registration procedures, and the formulation of cooperative bylaws. Overall, the training session by Valency Agro Nigeria and local CBOs was highly successful in raising awareness about the importance of cooperative formation among smallholder farmers. The participants expressed gratitude for the knowledge and skills gained during the training and showed enthusiasm for implementing the cooperative model in their respective villages. Moving forward, Valency Agro Nigeria and the local CBOs plan to provide ongoing support and guidance to the farmers in the cooperative formation process. This will include follow-up meetings, mentoring, and technical assistance to ensure the successful establishment and operation of the cooperatives.

Ltd.'s ESG&CSR team in Ivory Coast organized a one-day company tour aimed at providing students of the Joseph Garnier College in Attinguié with practical insights into cashew processing. This educational initiative, known as a student round, offers the following opportunities: Hands-on Learning: Experience firsthand the various stages of cashew processing, from raw nut processing to packaging, by observing the plant's operations under the guidance of industry professionals. Understanding Industry Practices: Gain knowledge about the equipment, machinery, and techniques used in cashew processing, as well as the quality control measures implemented to ensure product standards. Environmental and Social Awareness: Understand the environmental impact of cashew processing activities and learn about sustainable practices adopted by the plant to minimize waste generation, conserve resources, and promote social responsibility. Career Exploration: Explore potential career opportunities in the cashew processing industry by interacting with professionals working in various roles within the plant, gaining insights into job responsibilities, skill requirements, and career pathways. Later, a school delegation of 36 students and 3 supervisors was introduced to the Valency group. Witnessing the peeling process and site progress left them amazed. After the visit, students discussed cashew processing, Valency's activities, and the factory construction with Mr. Abhishek Mishra Later, they enjoyed a lunch of bread, sweets, and water, settling in good spirits. The Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) team at Valency Agro Nigeria, under the guidance of the CSR corporate initiative, recently initiated a collaboration with the satellite coordinator to increase the number of women at the Ogbomoso cashew peeling unit. Recruitment Strategy: The CSR team, in collaboration with the satellite coordinator, focused on increasing awareness among existing Women Self-Help Groups (WSHG) and cooperatives in the surrounding communities. Efforts were made to inform and encourage women to consider employment opportunities at the cashew peeling unit. Mentorship and Support: In addition to recruitment efforts, the CSR team, together with the satellite coordinator, is preparing to implement a mentorship program for the new recruits. This program aims to provide guidance, support, and skills development for the women entering the workforce. Experienced employees at the cashew peeling unit will mentor and support the new recruits, ensuring a smooth transition and fostering a supportive work environment. This program purpose is that increased awareness encourages men to be protective about their health. • As per studies indicate that West African men, including those of African descent living in other parts of the world, may have a higher incidence of prostate cancer compared to some other ethnic groups. • By addressing these objectives, a prostate cancer awareness program aims to make a meaningful impact on public health outcomes, reduce the burden of the disease, and improve the overall well-being of individuals and communities. • In some West African regions, access to healthcare services may be limited. Prostate cancer awareness programs can help bridge the gap by providing information about the importance of regular screenings and encouraging men to seek medical attention when needed.

Valency's Fertilizer Business Unit Head, Priyanka Jain, along with a distinguished panel of agriculture industry experts discussed key themes and trends impacting the commodity space in the #ASEAN region, at the recently concluded industry forum - GTR Asia Singapore 2023.

Nigeria is one of the fastest growing economies in the world with the agricultural sector accounting for over 25% to the country’s GDP. Coupled with a young and skilled workforce Nigeria is poised to becoming an important part of global food supply chains. Valency has contributed to the growth and modernisation of the sector through its continuous partnerships with farmers. 

Last week, Valency CR&S and Agrochemical team held a Field Day at the villages of Shendam and Bokkos in Plateau to demonstrate the effectivness of different types of agrochemicals in controlling weeds on both maize and rice crops. Our team also provided training to more than 90 farmers on the proper use of herbicides and fungicides.

Field days are an integral part of our sustainability initiatives and its an activity we look forward to eagerly as it creates a common platform for farmers and team to interact and learn from each other.

Valency’s CR&S team held a Refresher Training Course on Group Formation and Management for the Self-Help Group leaders across Ibafo, Ogbomoso, Shendam and Bokkos. The training course was well received and achieved its objectives by providing valuable knowledge and skills to the SHG leaders. 

By enhancing understanding of the principles and importance of self-help groups and equipping them with the necessary skills for effective group formation and management, the course has empowered community leaders in making a significant impact in their respective SHGs

According to the United Nations, only up to 15% of the children below the school age are enrolled in childcare centres in Nigeria. The lack of proper childcare facilities is a major bottleneck in the participation of women in the workforce in sub-Saharan Africa. 

As part of our sustainability efforts in bridging the gender divide and reducing income inequality, the CR&S team set up a free creche with a safe environment for their children to learn and grow at our cashew peeling centre in Asese, Nigeria. Since the opening of the crèche two weeks back, the flexibility to nurture their children while working has shown a significant improvement in the workplace productivity of our women workforce.

As part of CR&S initiative of Valency, the CR&S division recently recognized 30 bright students from two community schools in Shendam LGA of Plateau State with school kits containing (mathematical sets, calculators, notebooks, rulers, biros, bags, and pencils). This outreach aims to alleviate the school expenses of families that struggles to give school materials for their children. It also seeks to recognize and reward outstanding academic performance to motivate students in the community, to strive for academic success and perform better in their academics and other extra-curricular activities. This will also deliver a positive message to the community on the great value of education for the next generation.

As part of the celebration of World Health Day, Valency Agro held a talk within the staff of Ibafo factory to discuss each one’s journey to achieving #HealthForAll, which is the theme for this year’s global health awareness day. The CRS team put this program together to raise awareness on the importance of good health and well-being. And by educating the public about health and providing necessary resources will help us achieve Health For All that is the greatest gift to be shared.

Valency International is taking giant strides towards deepening its presence in value-added commodities by making significant investments in Côte d'Ivoire. Our senior leadership team had the honour of meeting His Excellency Prime Minister of Côte d'Ivoire, Mr Patrick Achi and appraising him of our numerous initiatives which create jobs and contribute to the Ivorian economy. The ribbon-cutting ceremony for our cashew nut processing plant is a key milestone in our journey to playing an impactful role in making global agricultural supply chains more sustainable and making significant contribution to the local economy.

Last month, we celebrated the International Day of Forests by taking part in forest conservation in Nigeria, to build a sustainable future for the next generation. Along with the enthused students of Ibafo Junior Secondary School, Valency’s CRS team planted trees for a greener future.

Valency Agro/CR&S division continues the initiative to give back to the local community by donating to 40 outstanding students with essential school supplies from the community schools: Ibafo Community High School, Obafemi Owode Primary School, Magboro Community Primary School, Ibafo Community Junior School. The school materials will aid their learning and development, that will build brighter futures for the students and relieving their families of a financial stress that often influences their failure to attend school.

Valency Agro Nigeria in partnership of GIZ, have successfully carried out the Mini Field Day to implement Good Agricultural Practices. The main objective of the field day is to further enhance sustainability of resistance to late blight on potato production over time in Shen community of Barkin Ladi LGA of Plateau State in Nigeria. There are 47 farmers from RATT Progressive Farmers Society Limited cooperative have participated in the potato farm demonstration.

With adequate training and education, farmers may improve their yield and enhance their profitability.
