Cashew Nut Shell

Cashew nutshell cake is the agro waste post extraction of cashew nutshell liquid from cashew nutshell. This waste Cashew nutshell has numerous industrial applications including power generation, Bio-Charcoal, Biofuel and powering boilers.

Cashew nut shell cake is the Agro waste post extraction of cashew nut shell liquid from cashew nut shell. Cashew nut shell is used for Power generation, Bio Charcoal, Biofuel and running boilers.

Bio Char is obtained from cashew nutshell cake via the process of pyrolysis, which is the thermal decomposition of materials at elevated temperatures in an inert atmosphere. It involves a change of chemical composition. Pyrolysis of organic substances produces volatile products and leaves a solid carbon-rich Char as residue. This biochar has applications in carbon sequestration, nutrient & microbial carrier to improve soil health & various other industrial applications.

Cashew nut shell cakes are one of the most abundant forms of tropical biomass waste which are used for power generation. The de-oiled shells are carbonized through charcoal retorts or can be gasified to generate power. The African subcontinent is on a sustained drive to make best use this natural

During pyrolysis of de-oiled nut shell cake, syngas is obtained along with biochar and other volatile compounds. This syngas, often referred to as synthetic gas, is principally used for producing ammonia and methanol. It is combustible in nature & hence also used as fuel.

Industrial Boilers are water-containing vessels that generate heat with the help of a fuel source. It is then transferred to various tubes connecting to the various industrial equipment. The steam energy is used for running the machinery, giving industries a cost-effective way of powering their production. De-oiled shell cakes are one of the preferred fuel options due to their significant calorific value. Due to being de-oiled, phenolic fumes are not formed when shell cakes are used, minimizing adverse environmental affects.

The Raw cashew nut has a shell of about 1/8-inch thickness inside which is a soft honeycomb structure containing a dark reddish brown viscous liquid. It is called the cashew nutshell liquid (CNSL), which is the pericarp fluid of the cashew nut. Research have shown that the constituents of CNSL possess special structural features for transformation into speciality chemicals and high value polymers. This involves a significant value addition, and the chemical transformation yields 100% chemically pure products. CNSL offers a myriad of applications including fuel additives, friction linings, high quality polymers, waterproofing & laminating coatings, and special chemicals.

Environmental Protection

  • Waste Management
  • Water Management
  • Green House Gases

Waste Management

Valency has devised methodology that governs the management of waste generated by the various activities of the cashew nut processing plant, including hazardous waste. In order to do so we have been implementing established waste management procedures in order to reduce the impact of this waste on the environment.

Water Management

Industrial wastewater is a major culprit  of environmental degradation, in particular soil/subsoil and water pollution. Rationalization of water usage can help in prevention of pollution and compliance with regulations and applicable IFC standards.

Green House Gases

We are committed to reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions through the reduction and rationalization of energy consumption (electricity, fuel) and the implementation of energy efficiency measures. These initiatives at our cashew nut processing plants include extensive usage of biofuels and solar power.
